One of the toughest things about being an internet marketer is getting visitors to your website. One of the best ways to do this is with pay per click advertising, provided that you know how to use it properly. Unfortunately most people don't and they end up losing a lot of money as a result.

Pay per click can be an excellent way to get visitors to your site, but you have to know what you are doing. A lot of people have lost a lot of money because they used pay per click without really understanding it. The idea behind pay per click is that you pay for your ad every time somebody clicks on it and visits your site. Far and away the largest source of these ads are from Google, you have probably seen the ads when you do a search. The reason that pay per click is so effective is that unlike other forms of advertising you only pay when people actually visit your website.

The problem with pay per click is that you may be getting all the wrong visitors to your site. If you are selling a product you want people who are actually interested in buying the product to visit your site. In order to achieve this you need to have good copy in your ad, in addition you need to make sure that you are targeting the right keywords. If you do this right you will get a very high conversion rate since the people who visit your site are looking to buy what you are selling. However if you get it wrong you will end up spending a lot of money for visitors who have no intention of buying.

The other thing that you need to be careful of when you are using pay per click is that the cost of the ads can vary dramatically. In some cases you will be able to get visitors for a couple of cents each, in others it could cost you over a hundred dollars. Obviously if you are selling a product for fifty dollars spending a hundred dollars for each visitor to your site is not a good idea. The rates are determined by how many advertisers are trying to target that particular keyword. Again with good keyword research you can get lots of high quality traffic for a few cents per click.

Over the last few years it has become increasingly common for people to outsource the management of their pay per click advertising. It has really become a specialized skill that most internet marketers simply don't have. In most cases it is money well spent since a poorly managed campaign will cost you thousands of dollars and produce few sales. The skills required are very different then for most other forms of advertising so you need to make sure that you find somebody who knows what they are doing.
