The first thing that we need to say about flash intros and sites is that they do still have a place in the world of web design. There are a lot of people who completely avoid them because of the bad reputation that they got when flash first came out. Back then everybody created a flash intro for their site which invariably took forever to load and achieved nothing but to irritate the visitor. This tended to result in visitors not sticking around to view the site. As a result everybody took the flash off of their sites and have avoided it ever since.
While the bad reputation that flash intros earned back in the early days was well deserved that doesn't mean that they don't have a place on the modern website. It does however mean that you need to make sure that you use them correctly. This requires a good designer who can use these features so that they enhance your site rather than distract from it. The most important thing is that your flash intro needs to load quickly and be very short, people are not going to sit through a long intro and they are certainly not going to sit and wait for it to load.
Of course there are a lot of other things that you can do with flash besides create intros and in truth most of these are far more useful. Flash allows you to add all kinds of media to your site which is becoming more and more important all the time. These days a site that is all text is really not going to hold your visitors interest. By adding all of this other media you can build a site that they will find much more interesting and as a result spend a lot more time at.
Like most elements that can be added to a website if you are going to add flash you are going to want to make sure that you choose a designer that knows how to use it. Just because you can add something to your site doesn't mean that you should. Anything that you add should be there for a reason, in most cases to enhance the visitor's experience. That means that you need to make sure that your designer knows how to integrate these features into your site so that they all go together in a coherent way.
